Hello Edelweiss District Commissioners!
I’d like to introduce myself... I am Scott Hooper and your new Edelweiss District Commissioner. My family and I are relatively recent transplants to Europe and are based in Luzern, Switzerland. I look forward to working with each of you.
First, thank you for your continued support of our Edelweiss units. The vast majority of Scouting’s impact occurs at the unit level so your continued mentorship and nurturing of our district’s units is a key to making a difference in the lives of our young people. On behalf of the youth and units we serve, thank you.
I’d also like to recognize James Beatty for his service as the past District Commissioner and his continued service as Assistant Council Commissioner and 2016 Woodbadge Course Director. Thanks, James.
In the spirit of giving back more than requested, here are a couple of items that you may or may not have seen already…
1. TAC Commissioner’s College. TAC Commissioner’s College will be held at Camp Freedom (Oberdachstetten, DE) Saturday September 19th. The course will run from ~9 AM to ~4 PM. People can pitch a tent on site and camp the night before if they wish. To defray costs, a minimal fee of $5-10 dollars will be charged. This Commissioner’s College session is being held to take pressure off the Scouter’s Annual Conference calendar to allow Commissioners to attend other sessions. Commissioner’s College is a great opportunity to learn and to exchange information with other TAC Commissioners. See you there!
2. As mentioned above, TAC will be holding a Woodbadge course next summer (6-12 August, 2016) with James Beatty as the course director. There is an extra special wrinkle in this course in that it will be held at Gilwell Park in London, the site of the first Woodbadge course. If you have not attended, or leaders in your units have not attended Woodbadge, you/they are missing a “mountain-top” experience. Sign up is currently open at: http://tac-bsa.kintera.org/woodbadge2016 .
Now for my request from you… Could you please send me a reply message with the following information?
Units You Serve Preferred E-mail
I am working with legacy Excel spreadsheets and want to verify the information on the sheets (then once I have access to Commissioner’s Tools, to verify that info against the spreadsheets). Thanks in advance for helping to verify that the District information is as accurate as possible.
And finally, a preview of this coming year... My agenda for this year is to push 2 themes: Unit Service (visitations and mentorship) and Unit Commissioner recruitment (without robbing that leadership from our units). If you have other ideas, concerns, suggestions, please feel free to drop me a line or give me a call. Thanks.
